Today’s informational meeting is hosted by the ASB officers with a scheduled starting time of 10:30 a.m. Today’s meeting includes information on students wanting to run for ASB office as well as an open Q-and-A.
10:27 a.m. – Activities Coordinator Beth Belisle introduces both herself and the topic of today’s meeting.
10:31 a.m. – ASB officers individually introduce themselves. Each officer provides information that expands on the roles of ASB. They speak on their independent roles as officers as well as how they work together as a team.
10:37 a.m. – ASB President Ethan Humphrey speaks about the responsibilities officers hold; this includes creating themes for the school year and organizing certain events.
10:39 a.m. – The officers discuss why they joined ASB. ASB Secretary An Ho said, “The best part about it is having an opportunity to hear the student body.”
10:41 a.m. – Officers take questions from the attending students.
10:43 a.m – Q: “What are the main differences between class office and ASB?” Humphrey said that ASB handles the whole student body instead of one grade.
10:45 a.m. – Ho talks of the requirements to join ASB. This includes taking the leadership class, designing a leadership t-shirt and attending the summer leadership camp.
10:47 a.m. – Belisle speaks on the misconceptions regarding class office and ASB. “They aren’t in competition,” said Belisle. She also said that previously being in leadership or class office is not required to run for ASB.
10:49 a.m. – April 10 is the first mandatory informational meeting to run for ASB for the next school year. Speeches will be filmed on April 18. On April 24, the speeches will be shown and voting polls will open. Polls will be closed and officers will be announced on April 30.
10:53 a.m. – Ho says the most challenging part on running for ASB is staying fully committed throughout the year. He also gives advice on running for ASB. “Show who you really are and how you can spice things up,” said Ho. “Think outside the box.”
10:57 a.m. – ASB Secretary Taylor Grantham also gives more advice about being in office. Regarding camp, Grantham said, “Get as much as you can out of that week.” Humphrey said, “Stay true to yourself, your ideas matter too.”
