Spirit Week is an event intended to raise excitement for homecoming with themes each day of the week from Sept. 17 to Sept. 21. The event provides a chance for students and staff alike to show off their panache. Although, some themes can be more difficult to participate in than others. Not everybody can put together the perfect outfit for the day’s theme, overalls for Time Travel Tuesday or pajamas that are appropriate for “I woke up like this” Monday aren’t necessarily accessible for all. So why go through all the trouble?
Participation of Spirit Week doesn’t necessarily need to be a flashy show. It is not made to be a competition but a way for the community to unite. “I was still able to participate by wearing shirts to represent Blazer spirit, like our School T-Shirts, the Blazer T-Shirts from last year, and our Blazer Effect T-Shirt that we got this year.” said McKinney. “I feel like some people don’t know that they can participate in spirit week in other ways, like the way I did. Since some people don’t have jerseys, like for sports day, or old fashioned clothing, for throwback day.”
Spirit Week’s purpose is “To get the school excited for Homecoming on Saturday” said junior Madison Stoll. Although inclusion in Spirit Week isn’t mandatory, it is a communal event said Junior Maya McKinney “I think it’s really fun that we can participate and do something as a community of our own.”
